The Heroine’s Journey

Dr. Maureen Murdock focused a large part of her career learning about The Heroes Journey from Joseph Campbell and, then, created the ten steps of The Heroine’s Journey. At first, I wasn’t sure I could see that her 10-part model was universal for women. But, after experiencing her in person with a 4-day workshop last weekend in Santa Fe, I am sincerely impressed with the depth of her model. And, she pointed out that we go through these ten steps over and over in a lifespan. Yes, it is The Heroine’s Journey for our times. And, I was able to see how it has unfolded in my life.

But, I’m also pursuing a model for those times somewhere in the future when women are known and valued equally with men. I’m devoted to learning about that kinder world and to describing it for us.

You can find more of Maureen Murdock’s work on her website and in her books.

Here is a quote from a poem Dr. Murdock shared with us. If women were regarded as equally valuable people:

How might your life have been different…

By: Judith Duerk

How might your life have been different if there had been a place for you?

A place for you to go… a place of women,

to help you learn the ways of women…

a place where you were nurtured from an ancient flow

sustaining you and steadying you as you sought to become your self,

A place of women to help you find and trust

the ancient flow already there within yourself…

waiting to be released…

A place of women….

How might your life be different?
