This little book is all you need to find your way into writing.
My Motto: Know Yourself ~ Treasure Life ~ Love Others
PURPOSE: Our first part of life is to grow up, to learn who we are and how to live. The circumstances of our lives teach us about that: our purpose is self knowledge and self mastery.
MEANING: One of the most useful means for emotional and spiritual self-development is the systematic use of an ongoing workbook, diary or journal. Such a journal, thoughtfully done, can provide a structure to assist us in paying closer attention to our lives. The practice of writing can evoke and develop our knowledge of ourselves, others and our relationships. To see and understand something of such import, we preserve the colorful threads by writing so we don’t have to hold them in our memory. That frees up the creative mind for even more insight.
BEST METHOD: There is no more direct, simple and yet infinitely-complex manner to accomplish self-knowledge as using our own words and preserving our thoughts in writing. This is why, in sessions with my clients, I always use a flip chart. If we need to discuss complex concepts, in order to retain the elements, we build on them by writing them down. That way we preserve the details of complex ideas and can see the bigger picture and true meaning. In other words, when you can’t see the forest for the trees, write it down!
UNCOVERING DEPTHS: To build the elements of a quality, a fear or a hardship, there are layers, like a tapestry woven with colorful threads. Using more advanced structures for writing uncovers depths typically beyond reach of ordinary awareness. And, we begin to see “the big picture.” Keeping daily time for writing guarantees improved self-awareness and is often the chief instrument for personal refinement. As a spiritual practice, writing becomes the core of the contemplative journey and a means to connecting with purpose.
PEACE AND SOLUTIONS: Whether an issue is situational, relational, emotional or tactical, writing is usually the best means for finding peace and solutions. We can vent safely, brainstorm freely, lay an issue aside, outline our sweetest dreams and identify causes objectively. That creates a trustworthy foundation of priorities to support how we want to build our lives.
